What exactly is financial aid?
Financial aid is any financial assistance a student receives to assist with paying for school. Typical forms of aid are: grants, scholarships, student loans and Federal work study jobs.
How do I apply for financial aid?
For grants, loans and work-study jobs, you fill out one form, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). However, most scholarships, including Bright Futures, require you to fill out separate applications.
When do I apply for financial aid?
We suggest students file their FAFSA by March 1 to receive the best financial aid package possible. Many grants are awarded on a “funds available” basis. If you can’t apply by March 1, the earlier you apply, the better chance you have at this free money. **Don’t forget: If you are starting school in the Summer and want to be considered for Summer financial aid, in addition to completing the 2014-2015 FAFSA you must also complete the 2013-2014 FAFSA.**
Where do I file the FAFSA?
The FAFSA can be found by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is important that you look for the .gov in the address. There are .com websites that are scams and you want to make sure your information isn’t going to the wrong people.
How do I know what my financial aid package is?
The best way to view your financial aid package is through your myWings account. Follow these steps:
- Log into myWings
- Click the “Student” tab
- Click the “Student Self Service” link in the “My Records” channel
- Click “Student Records”
- Click on “Financial Aid and Student Information”
- Select the term for which you want to view your financial aid award
How do I make sure my UNF knows I have Bright Futures?
You must make sure UNF is listed on your Bright Futures application as the school you plan to attend. The State of Florida will send UNF the information for any student who is eligible for Bright Futures and has listed UNF on their application. You must also make sure your residency for tuition purposes is listed as “Florida Resident.”
Who can I contact if I have questions about my financial aid?
UNF’s One Stop Student Services can answer your financial aid questions. They can be reached at 904-620-5555. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter. Please note that due to Federal privacy laws, there is certain information that can only be discussed in person.
